by Michele on June 19, 2012

Everyone who has ever explored the area of pole dancing for fun or exercise will know that there’s little else out there that will give you such a good workout. However, what areas does it really target and what can you expect to see in the mirror after some regular weekly sessions? Caitlin, who is an avid pole dancer blogger over at poleidancingpoles.info shares how pole dancing has benefited her.

A Smile

It may sound twee, however advice gurus constantly bombard us with jargon that tells us beauty comes from within. A confident woman with warts will be more attractive to a man than a shy woman with natural beauty. If this is the case then pole dancing puts a big tick against the box, as every woman emerges feeling more confident, sassy, sexy and more at ease with her own body and it’s amazing capabilities.

It’s also proven to fight depression as the girl power is evident from the moment you step in. Other dancers will cheer you on and encourage you, giving you a boost whilst making new friends.

A Sex Goddess

Yes, pole dancing has been proven to bring the spark back into the relationship, as during your workout you learn moves you can bring into your own bedroom, delighting your partner whilst burning those calories. A little secret that many pole dancers keep to themselves is that the control needed also helps to tighten the pelvic floor muscles too!

A Flat Stomach

Core strength is improved with pole dancing and after your first session you will probably notice the slight ache in your abdominals. This is hardly noticed when exercising as you have so much fun you don’t realise how hard your body is working to keep you on the pole.

Not only does pole dancing work the abs, it also works the quads too, as you lift your leg to cross over the pole, you tone your oblique’s, giving you a standing sit-up that attacks all areas.

Toned Arms

If you’ve recently taken up pole dancing you can say goodbye to those bingo wings, your arms will be your life line as you learn and increase your confidence on the pole. Biceps will improve, toning skin and muscle and your overall strength will increase. This alters depending on expertise as you may share your weight between your arms and legs as your repertoire of moves increase which leads us onto your..

Lovely Thighs

Some people like to dress up for the occasion wearing stilettos; this alone tones the thighs as you need control to exert the moves whilst wearing killer heels. However even in trainers you’ll feel and see the benefits of your inner thighs, ankles, basically your whole legs. Your inner thighs may hurt a little after your first session showing you really are giving them a good workout.

A Thinner You!

As you can burn up to 300 calories an hour, you are giving your body a thorough cardiovascular workout that increases you heart health and burns that fat.

In a nutshell, pole dancing is a completely holistic way to tone, shape and condition the entire body and mind whilst having fun and bringing out your brighter side!
